Stewart Robson reports from Cardiff to address whether or not Thomas Tuchel's stock has fallen after his Dortmund stint.
"After the media speculation around Borussia Dortmund's interest in Lucien Favre intensified this week, OGC Nice want to share our position publicly, once and for all", read a statement from the French club.
The Swiss, fresh from leading Nice to third place in Ligue 1, had been installed as the favourite to succeed Thomas Tuchel following the latter's acrimonious departure from Westphalia on Tuesday.
Nice have released a statement revealing that they are not prepared to allow head coach Lucien Favre to enter discussions with Borussia Dortmund over the managerial role at the Bundesliga outfit.
"It is logical that a coach of his calibre, at the end of such a campaign with Nice, attracts interest from the biggest European clubs, like Champions League quarter-finalists Borussia Dortmund".
"It is equally legitimate that this opportunity may arouse the interest of Lucien Favre".
Nice are understandably keen to keep hold of their man and insist they will not be doing business with Dortmund.
"However, given the proximity to the return to training [19 June], the club will not respond favourably to any negotiation for their manager, under contract until June 2019".
"The sporting interest prevails on the financial side, as the Nice management has always asserted".
"This decision is final and unequivocal". This chapter has already been closed. It was fully heard by the leaders of BVB and, of course, also by Lucien Favre, who perfectly understood and accepted it.
Lucien Favre and Nice enjoyed an outstanding season. The book for this summer is closed.
Other names in the frame include Peter Bosz of Ajax, Cologne's Peter Stoger and Fiorentina's Paulo Sousa, with kicker reporting on Friday that either Bosz or Stoger would get the job.
