On Thursday, President Donald Trump announced his plans to withdraw the US from the Paris Climate Agreement, leading numerous politicians and stars to criticize his latest decision.
Trump announced his decision to leave the accord Thursday.
Trump argued that leaving the accord that increases environmental safety standards across the globe protects American jobs, presumably for workers in coal country and oil rigs.
"I promised I would exit or renegotiate any deal which fails to serve U.S. interests". Countries on six continents have questioned the US following President Trump's decision.
France and the United States "would continue to work together", but not on climate change, it said.
But the Conservative premier failed to sign a joint statement with France, Germany and Italy condemning Trump's actions.
The billionaire founder and CEO of SpaceX said Wednesday (May 31) that he'll resign from the three White House advisory councils on which he sits if Trump pulls the United States out of the Paris climate pact.
Germany's powerful auto industry said Europe would need to reassess its environmental standards to remain competitive after the "regrettable" US decision.
The Paris Agreement is an worldwide attempt to slow global warming and mitigate its worst effects. "It is an actual mistake, both for the US and for our planet", Macron said.
On Twitter, Peduto responded, "As the Mayor of Pittsburgh, I can assure you that we will follow the guidelines of the Paris Agreement for our people, our economy & future". "There is no way", Macron said.
Oil supermajors ExxonMobil and Chevron reiterated their support for the endangered agreement, while automaker General Motors said the White House's decision would not lessen its resolve on the climate.
Deon Terblanche of the World Meteorological Organization said the organization hasn't run any new scientific models following Trump's announcement.
However, Trump indicated that re-entry may not be a top priority for his administration.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed his disappointment to Trump in a telephone call but Trudeau said he has been inspired by "growing momentum around the world to combat climate change and transition to clean growth economies".
"There is no backsliding on the Paris Agreement", European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said.
Merkel, whose country hosts this year's worldwide climate summit, said Trump's decision was "extremely regrettable and that's putting it very mildly".
"In addition to being disappointed, I'm also angry", Yamamoto said.
