Rock Am Ring was cancelled a year ago after more than 80 people were injured by lightning strikes during fierce and sudden summer storms.
A terrorist threat has upended a German music fest, and forced the swift evacuation of more than 80,000 fans.
One of Germany's biggest music festivals was evacuated on Friday (June 2) over a "possible terrorist threat", police said.
The May 22 bombing of an arena in Manchester, Germany, during an Ariana Grande concert left 22 people dead and 59 hurt.
On Friday evening, the regional state government also confirmed the terrorist threat and said that the festival has been halted for security reasons.
"The background is concrete evidence based on which a possible terrorist threat can not be ruled out".
"We take all tips and suspicious incidents extremely seriously and investigate closely", they added.
Following the recent attack in Manchester outside a concert, organizers had instituted strict security controls including body searches, while backpacks and bags were banned.
Rock am Ring organizers say they hope to resume the festival tomorrow; performers listed on its bill include Sum 41, System Of A Down, and Liam Gallagher.
All visitors will be kept informed about any developments on all Rock am Ring Social Media channels, radio and the speakers.
