The French Open tournament now advances into the second day of play for the second round.

Edmund will now face the victor of the match between home favourite Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Argentina's Renzo Olivo.

Had the third set been the deciding one, things might have turned out differently, but the extra leeway afford by best-of-five sets gave Murray the chance to find his rhythm.

2 - American men left out of the 11 who entered in the main draw, making for the smallest US contingent in the second round at Roland Garros since 2011.

John Isner (21), United States, def. Jordan Thompson, Australia, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-3.

'All she wants to do when I Facetime is hit the red button'.

Stan Wawrinka should be a relived man to commit 33 unforced errors and still come out victorious in straight sets.

Simona Halep (3), Romania, def. Jana Cepelova, Slovakia, 6-2, 6-3.

The French federation issued a statement criticizing Hamou's "reprehensible behavior with a journalist yesterday" and said its disputes commission will investigate the case "for improper conduct".

Andy Murray answered doubts about his form and fitness with a four-set win over Andrey Kuznetsov in the opening round of the French Open.

After all the niggling illnesses he has suffered since the start of the year and the elbow injury that only really cleared up a couple of weeks ago, Murray is looking bright eyed and eager.

The Scot said: "It does help a little bit, because at least if you don't start the match well you've got a bit of time to work it out and adjust to the conditions a little bit". "Here at the beginning of my career I struggled". It was better. I still think I can do some things a bit better than I did today, obviously. He is a top-50 player.

There were also wins for third seed Wawrinka, Kei Nishikori and Nick Kyrgios.

Murray broke serve early in the third, before wrapping up the match with relative ease.

Laurent Lokoli did not do honor to his wild card at the French Open. So I don't want to miss anything.

"I love being here and I love playing on this court", Williams said. "He made out to be hurting his leg for two sets and then was running around like a rabbit in the fifth set". And then, in Lokoli's view, Klizan suddenly would be fine.

Lokoli continued, via Business Recorder: "He speaks of respect but he showed none of this".

The match was suspended on Monday because of darkness after the players split the first two sets.

Djokovic has managed to lure the eight-time grand slam champion into the coaching ranks for the first time, although he is only able to be in Paris this week.

Lendl was courtside Tuesday, having not been present since the Australian Open.

Third seed Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland, victor of the 2015 French Open, is also through after he overcame Slovakia's Jozef Kovalík 6-2, 7-6, 6-3. The No. 3 seed kept up his momentum in Paris.

"I expected it to be very tough. I'm feeling good, I'm playing good tennis and I'm happy to be back in Paris".

On the women's side, No. 9 seed Agnieszka Radwanska needed three sets to beat Alison Van Uytvanck, but ultimately came out on top, 6-7 (3), 6-2, 6-3.

The 18th-seeded Kyrgios won the first set but double faulted twice to hand the South African the second.

"If something was to be done, I think it would be a lot more beneficial to do it before the tournament starts", Murray said. The 21-year-old Russian had 12 aces against Berdych and set up a big server contest.

Former US Open champion Del Potro, who is still working his way back up the rankings after wrist problems, will present a serious test of Murray's Roland Garros ambitions.

His best result at the French Open was reaching the semifinals in 2009, just months before he won his Grand Slam title in NY. I won three tournaments so far.

"So I will gain a lot of confidence from that".

Since becoming world No. 1 at the end of a year ago, things have not come easy for the Scot, with a loss of form compounded by an elbow injury and illness, including a bout of shingles that was diagnosed shortly after the Australian Open.

Gael Monfils (15), France, def. Dustin Brown, Germany, 6-4, 7-5, 6-0. Both hit highlight-worthy shots on a regular basis.

Murray's and Edmund's victories were a major boost to British fortunes after Johanna Konta's shock loss to Hsieh Su-wei on Court Philippe Chatrier earlier on Tuesday.
