Chinese leaders are eager for more influence on the global stage, and Trump's move opened up another opportunity for China to fill a void left by the US.
Technology companies have been among the most vocal to oppose some of Mr Trump's controversial policies and in February Uber CEO Travis Kalanick quit the council after the administration implemented a travel ban on people from seven majority Muslim countries.
Worse, if Trump's obsession with coal continues, America may be left behind for good.
Business investors seemed pleased, with stock prices, already up for the day, bumping higher as he spoke and the Dow Jones industrial average rising 135 points for the day.
China and the U.S. are responsible for some 40 percent of the world's emissions and experts had warned it was vital for both to remain in the Paris agreement if it is to succeed.
After the announcement, they expressed disappointment.
James Hansen, the undisputed hero of the climate-change movement, called the Paris deal "a fraud really, a fake".
The US exit from the Paris agreement also gives ammunition to detractors within the Chinese government who want to slow down the pace of shutting down polluting industries, particularly local governments, Wang said.
Iger, Disney's chief executive, also said he would no longer be an advisory council member.
"Climate change is real".
"The Paris agreement is a cornerstone of cooperation among the nations of this world".
They often argued that the structural shift in world energy markets towards renewables and away from fossil fuels would continue, regardless of the United States withdrawal.
It's also unlikely to revive the USA coal industry, which will remain under pressure from cheaper natural gas and the increasing cost-competitiveness of renewables. As part of its contribution towards this goal, the United States had pledged to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 26-28 per cent compared to 2005 levels by the year 2025.
On Wednesday, a group of major United States companies including Apple, Facebook, Gap, Google and Unilever signed off on a plea for the USA to keep participating in the climate deal. In terms of climate negotiations in the future, some say China may be less inclined to exert pressure or propose aggressive goals.
This comes on the heels of President Trump announcing that he was withdrawing the U.S. from the Paris Agreement, but this didn't stop some United States governors and mayors from taking a stand.
And although China remains heavily reliant on coal and pollution is a persistent problem for its 1.3 billion citizens, the country's communist rulers say they're determined to institute fundamental change. "I do, and I always will".
By announcing the United States' withdrawal from the Paris agreement on climate change, President Donald Trump has dramatically underlined that his brand of populist politics is not merely the stuff of stand-up comedians but a source of globally risky policy.
Global recognition of the environmental and economic wisdom of cleaner energy does not depend upon Trump's recognition of them.
Donald Trump is the loser here, isolated and lonely while the rest of the world works together.
"The decision of the United States to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement is very regrettable, and I'm expressing myself in a very reserved way when I say that", she said, adding that the deal was needed to protect the environment. "Collectively, these actors remain committed to the Paris accord".
"We believe that abiding by the accord, without significant changes, would have substantially impacted the USA economy, increased electricity costs and required the power sector to rely on less diverse and more intermittent energy", the company said.
