This wasn't your ordinary preseason game.

Detroit's regular-season opener in its new home will take place October 5 against the Minnesota Wild.

The Red Wings will play their next season in the newly-built Little Caesars Arena.

And while the 20,000-seat, $863 million building was a little more than half-full, fans went home happy.

For the fourth straight game, the Red Wings conceded the first goal. The melted ice vials are limited to the first 3,000 purchased.

Reserve goaltender Philipp Grubauer was charged with the loss, despite making 19 of 21 saves in the second and third periods. Faulk and Carrick each finished with a goal and an assist.

The second period was when the Wings pulled away from the visitors.

Following Frk's goal, the Wings would score three goals in less than three minutes.

Zane McIntyre started in goal for the Bruins and allowed four goals on 24 shots in two periods.

Kasperi Kapanen scored the game-winner on the power play 58 seconds into the third period, and had an assist, to help the Toronto Maple Leafs defeat the Buffalo Sabres 3-1 at KeyBank Center. Caroline claimed him off waivers before the start of last season but the Red Wings reclaimed him when the Hurricanes waived him on November 1.
