Actor Manju Warrier has condemned the boycott calls made from some quarters against the movie Ramaleela starring Dileep.
"Another movie releasing along with Udhaharanam Sujatha is Ramaleela".
The Dileep-starrer was to release in July, days before the actor was arrested for allegedly being the mastermind behind the abduction and sexual assault of a prominent woman actor. The release of Ramaleela, which was scheduled to hit the screens on Eid, was postponed due to widespread protests against its lead actor in Kerala. In his bail petition, Dileep had raised serious allegations against his ex-wife Manju Warrier.
On Saturday, Manju posted on Facebook that she'd enjoyed working on Udhaharnam Sujatha and that she's grateful to people who'd supported the film.
She said that if films were kept away from theatres, there wouldn't be anyone to invest in it in the future. Some have even apparently threatened to vandalise theatres showing the film. "However, this attitude is unfortunate". A film does not belong to one person alone, it is a collective effort of many people. Their relationship with the film does not end once they leave the set after collecting their remuneration. Many families depend on cinema. "For them, cinema is food, medicine and books", the actor added.
Produced by Tomichan Mulakuppadam under the banner of Mulakuppadam Films, Ramaleela is directed by debutant Arun Gopy.
"Ramaleela is producer Tomichan Mulakupadam's investment".
"Arun Gopi who has dreamed about cinema for years". "She does not forget to mention light boys and cooks and those whose names do not appear in the credit".
"It is the right of the makers to ensure that their movie reaches the theatres and people get to see it. Nobody has the right to deny it", Manju said in the statement posted on her Facebook page. It will be an injustice to cinema if we do that. Time will not forgive us.
"Let the people watch the movie and decide,"she concluded her post".
