For Jose, it should be noted, according to the hurricane center, that "there is a fair bit of spread in the global models.which does not give me a lot of confidence in the long-term track forecast".
As of 11 a.m. Saturday, TS Lee is moving west at 12 miles per hour with maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour.
The storm is now about 500 miles (800 km) south-southwest of Bermuda, packing maximum sustained winds of 70 mph (110 kph), the NHC said. The storm is expected to turn "north-northwestward tomorrow and northward by Sunday", the forecasters predict.
In the Atlantic, Hurricane Jose was far from land but generating powerful swells that the center said were affecting coastal areas in Bermuda, the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Hispaniola and the USA southeast.
The swells can create life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
Tropical-storm-force winds extend out about 70 miles from the center of the storm.
Maria Becomes Hurricane, Putting Caribbean in the Crosshairs Again
Jose is expected impact the United States' southeast coast this weekend. "Interests along the US east coast from North Carolina to New England should monitor the progress of Jose during the next several days". The storm had maximum sustained winds of 50 miles per hour Friday morning.
While it's still earlier, Jose is expected to bring rain to nearly all of MA.
The last time a hurricane hit CT was Sandy in October 2012. And like Irma and Jose, they formed off of Africa's coast and are heading westward.
"Meanwhile, forecasters are keeping close tabs on two other weather systems, one of which is now Tropical Depression Fourteen and should become Tropical Storm Lee later Friday". The system has an 80 percent chance of developing into a named storm by next week.
Another tropical wave, located south of the Cabo Verde Islands, is producing a large area of shower and thunderstorm activity.
