According to unnamed USA officials cited in the Post's report, Ambassador Sergey Kislyak told Russian officials he discussed "campaign-related matters, including policy issues important to Moscow" with Sessions.

According to one former official, the two men talked about Trump and his position on Russian Federation, as well as how relations between the two countries would look with Trump as president.

Sessions responded by saying that he had met with Kislyak in his capacity as a U.S. Senator, but that he "never met with any Russian officials to discuss issues of the campaign".

Scaramucci has previously had a tense and fraught relationship with both Spicer and White House chief of staff Reince Priebus, who both vehemently objected to Trump's decision to install Scaramucci in the top communications job. And, the House Intelligence Committee will interview Kushner on Tuesday as part of their Russian Federation probe. Deputy Atty. Gen. Rod Rosenstein charged Mueller with investigating not only "any links and/or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the campaign of President Donald Trump" but also "any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation".

Ambassador Sergey Kislyak's accounts of two conversations with Sessions - then a top foreign policy adviser to Republican candidate Donald Trump - were intercepted by US spy agencies, which monitor the communications of senior Russian officials both in the United States and in Russia.

After that interview, Sessions said that he plans to stay on as Attorney General "so long as that is appropriate". When Sessions recused himself, Trump felt betrayed because the AG is also guilty of collusion. The meetings were only publicly disclosed following a CNN report in May.

Mueller and congressional committees are investigating whether the president's campaign coordinated with Russian Federation during the 2016 election.

The public Judiciary hearing on Wednesday will look into rules governing the registration of agents working for foreign governments in the United States and foreign attempts to influence USA elections. "Information concerning the June 2016 meeting between Donald J Trump Jr and Natalia Veselnitskaya is relevant to the investigation".
