Attorney General Jeff Sessions discussed material related to President Donald Trump's 2016 campaign with a Russian ambassador, according to a Friday Washington Post report. Yet Sessions said March 1 that he "never met with any Russian officials to discuss issues of the campaign", and the following day, while announcing his recusal, he said it again: "I never had meetings with Russian operatives or Russian intermediaries about the Trump campaign".

Two of the people with knowledge of that process say those efforts include probing the political affiliations of Mueller's investigators and their past work history.

"Sessions should have never recused himself, and if he was going to recuse himself, he should have told me before he took the job and I would have picked somebody else", Trump said in the interview.

Of course, this all comes as several highly anticipated key figures are set to testify before congress next week including Jared Kushner, former campaign chairman Paul Manafort, and Donald Trump Jr.

She was a central figure in a June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower in NY with U.S. President Donald Trump's oldest son, his son-in-law, and campaign manager that has become a top subject of investigation in Congress and at the Justice Department. Kushner is being interviewed by the Senate Intelligence Committee on Monday.

Sessions, who was a senator from Alabama during the presidential race, has faced questions about whether he properly disclosed his past interactions with Kislyak while a lawmaker who was a high-profile Trump surrogate.

Two former top US intelligence officials harshly criticized President Donald Trump on Friday for not standing up to Russian Federation for meddling in the presidential election, one of them wondering aloud whether the president's real aim is to make "Russia great again".

Separately, Trump Jr. and former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort have agreed to negotiate to provide the Senate Intelligence Committee with documents and be interviewed by the panel before a public hearing.

Kushner was among the participants at a June 2016 Trump Tower meeting with a Russian-American lawyer.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said there was nothing automatically inappropriate about Sessions discussing policy matters, or even Trump's views about them, with a foreign diplomat.

But Sessions insisted when he recused himself that he had not talked about the USA election campaign with the ambassador.

Brennan said he was disappointed by the president's handling of security issues in his first six months in office. Sessions is not only a perjurer, but he has been caught working with the Russians to help Trump win the election. Trump himself has publicly challenged Mueller, declaring this week that the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director would be crossing a line if he investigated the president's personal business ties.
