These devices ran on Intel's "Clover Trail" generation of Atom processors, which included the Z2760, Z2580, Z2560, and Z2520 processors. If you have already installed the update, you should know that Microsoft has reduced by half the volume of data collected at the "Basic level, which is one the reasons why France recently dropped all of its privacy complaints about Windows 10".
The issue revolves around Microsoft's plan, disclosed Thursday, to extend Windows 10 support to PCs running the Atom Clover Trail chips, but only via the older Windows 10 "Anniversary Update", not the current Creators Update. Microsoft is promising security patch support through this period.
"Microsoft is detecting these [Atom] machines and blocking the Creators Update for them", a Microsoft spokesperson clarified via e-mail. Advanced users may know how to turn off data collection by using the Services desktop app, though you should be aware that doing so will also disable Xbox achievements for Windows Store games that support them. Microsoft later published a list of Intel Skylake PCs with truncated Windows product support. "Uninstall this app now because it isn't compatible with Windows 10".
Windows on ARM is a special Windows 10 adapted for computing devices with processors based on ARM cores (for example, Snapdragon 835).
At the time, Acer suggested there might be hope by blaming buggy graphics drivers and claiming to be working with Microsoft to 'help provide compatible drivers to address this incompatibility.' Microsoft, though, has finally broken its silence on the matter to dash such hopes: Windows 10 Creators Update, and all future releases of Windows 10, will not be compatible with any Clover Trail Atom systems.
"With Windows 10, we introduced Windows as a Service, a model for continuous value delivery via twice annual feature updates and monthly quality updates".
That's not going to change; since "these systems are no longer supported by Intel", Microsoft says, they will not be getting the latest version of Redmond's OS.
These processors and devices are undoubtedly dated, but the problem is that they launched with Windows 8.1 which had a long support lifecycle, included an extended period.
This is the case with devices utilizing Intel Clover Trail Atom Processors today: they require additional hardware support to provide the best possible experience when updating to the latest Windows 10 feature update, the Windows 10 Creators Update. Atom Clover Trail chips can be found in many Windows 8-era low-power and portable PCs from a variety of vendors, including HP, Dell and Lenovo. It has agreed to at least support these devices with security updates all the way through 2023, the original Windows 8.1 support period.
