The Denver Broncos are expected to "part ways" with safety T.J. Ward by Saturday's deadline. For first-year head coach Vance Joseph, there would be no quicker way to lose a locker room of proven veterans. Ward is one the anchors of the Broncos defense's "No Fly Zone" and helps set the unit's attitude.
"I'm with him. I'm with him 100 percent". "I mean I didn't think - it's serious like that?"
The Broncos have reportedly been trying to move Ward, who has spent the last three seasons with the Broncos.
If you ask me, breaking up the 'No Fly Zone' would be a mistake. The Broncos can save that money if they end up trading or releasing him.
"It can't be real", Miller said. You always get blindsided by stuff. In addition, the Broncos are high on second-year safeties Justin Simmons and Will Parks. "And so we'll see what happens".
Starting inside linebacker Brandon Marshall had similar sentiments about the idea of the team moving on from Ward. Not to mention he has made some solid plays for the team. "He deserves to at least play out his contract".
For the 2017 season, T.J. Ward will make $4.5 million dollars. Given his injury and their plans to keep Devontae Booker and Paxton Lynch, who are both battling injuries, on the active roster, general manager John Elway is going to have to get creative and make a surprise cut or two before the team's Week 1 game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Also, undrafted rookie safety Jamal Carter of Miami led the team with 19 tackles in the preseason. But after the game, he sidestepped questions about Ward's status, saying, "Again, it is going to be a long weekend of a lot of transactions, you know, so I can not speak to that". If the team decides that he can walk after this season, then I can understand.
NOTES: The Broncos sent third-year tackle Ty Sambrailo to the Falcons on Friday for a fifth-round pick in next year's draft.
If Siemian has the same season he did a year ago, Lynch will most likely be watching the games from the sidelines.
