A Missouri lawmaker started the day by making a comment on Facebook that would soon lead to calls for her resignation and even catch the attention of the Secret Service.
When Chappelle-Nadal was asked about her prospects of stepping down, she was not only defiant, but some might say she sounded as if she was on the cusp of pulling some of her colleagues down with her.
"Out of anger and frustration, I said something that could have been reframed", she said on the website. "There are ways to remove her from office but I think she should take responsibility for her actions and resign".
Missouri's NAACP doesn't have a position about whether a controversial state Senator should resign or be ousted. If she had wished Trump an impeachment instead of an assassination, she would not be headline news today with her career in jeopardy.
"I didn't mean what I put up. People are traumatized!" Chappelle-Nadal tweeted. "It was in response to the concerns that I am hearing from residents of St. Louis".
Several people who have insinuated threats to the president have met with backlash. "There are people who are having nightmares".
"I strongly condemn and disavow Sen".
Nadal said that she will not resign despite the mounting pressure.
You might surmise that this senator realized the error of her ways after she deleted the post that conjured major uproar, but that doesn't look like the case.
By the afternoon, top members of her own party were calling for her resignation.
"Chappelle-Nadal should be ashamed of herself for adding her voice to this toxic environment".
She also mentioned that she was visited by the secret service.
Executive Director Rod Chapel tells the Missourinet that others are handling the issue about Democrat Maria Chappelle-Nadal's social media comment that President Trump should be assassinated.
Trump's comments about Charlottesville "make it easier for racists to be racists", she told the Star.
"I'm not going to do something that I haven't heard many Republicans do on the air or in private". She refused to resign, sending a Twitter message with a photo of a man flashing an ISIS terrorist group hand sign while posing for a photo with her. "A state senator here in Missouri called for the assassination of Donald Trump", Cleaver said on Fox News Saturday.
Chappelle-Nadal did not immediate respond to requests for comment. "She should resign immediately".
"I am not resigning". "When (people of color) are respected by this (White House) & they are willing to do real work, I'll sit down with them".
