The controls are tight, the art is nostalgic but not pandering, and it reminds me of what I liked about Genesis-era Sonic games.
Boss fights in Sonic Mania are pretty varied, but the the boss fight for Plant Zone is particularly special. In fact, you can even unlock a Mean Bean mode to play later, and it supports two players.
I've been playing a lot of Sonic Mania over the past few days.
If you want to practice bonus stages, catching UFOs, learning stages and other essential aspects of Sonic Mania, there's a new debug cheat that has been discovered (featured in older Sonic titles) allowing you to access nearly anything in-game.
You can enable the Debug Mode by pressing Triangle (PS4), Y (Xbox One), X (Switch) on the "No Save" icon and then the jump buttons on the controller to rotate through the options.
Once in level select mode, you can access any level in a "non-save" mode, meaning that any progress you do in this mode won't be saved.
Level Select is available as a cheat code in Sonic Mania and it can be performed by heading into the Mania Mode and then keeping the cursor at the "No Save" icon.
Sonic Mania unlockables give you more incentive to replay than the average Sonic game, ranging from new moves based on classic Sonic games to modes that change the way you play. This action should activate the Debug Mode. The PC version of Sonic Mania is slated to drop on August 29th.
