The report said that White house staff had not had time to book a room for the President of the United States Donald trump and his delegation at a hotel in Hamburg at the time of the G20 summit, because too late in beginning to address this problem.

The US President also confirmed he would visit London, but didn't give details of the timing.

The two leaders held a almost half hour meeting before the closing session of the G20 summit, Turkish officials have said without giving more details.

Trump will also have to justify his June decision to back out of the Paris Agreement, a worldwide voluntary commitment to fighting climate change.

Throughout the early days of May's relationship with Trump, it has been unclear what benefits she seeks to achieve from it.

A local newspaper Hamburger Abendblatt reported that Four Seasons Hotel had declined to host President Trump as they had no rooms available. However, her offer to be a go-between with Trump was immediately rebuffed by Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė who commented that: "I think there is no necessity of bridges".

Since visiting Washington, May has suffered a chastening general election in which her Conservative Party surprisingly lost its outright majority in parliament, hanging on as leader thanks to a deal with small Northern Ireland party the DUP.

Prime Minister May and I have developed a very special relationship, and I think trade will be a very big factor between our two countries.

As a result, May has been caught in the awkward position of offering other leaders privileged access to a president that nobody has asked for and which it's unclear she ever had in the first place.

On Friday, Chinese President Xi Jinping hailed a "golden era" of relations between his country and the United Kingdom and said an increase in investment from China since the Brexit vote highlighted its confidence in Britain. Where she will find this new goal remains unclear.

"There is no country that could possibly be closer than our countries", he told reporters.
