It happened near Woodruff Road around 5:45 a.m.

"Our detectives are working to track the container origins to see if an industrial or other accident may have occurred or if there is another explanation for the object", said Johnathan Bragg, spokesman for Greenville Police Department.

The tractor trailer drivers suffered minor injuries. First, the tractor trailer struck the pickup truck, sending it tumbling down the embankment.

The driver and front seat passenger of the auto died at the scene. Miller said a third person in the vehicle was seriously injured.

Southbound lanes were blocked after the crash. The left lane later reopened.

Greenville police were dispatched Thursday to the CVS on Main Street, and the Coroner's Office and county forensics also responded.

Miller advised that drivers should avoid the area and take an alternate route if possible.

There's no word yet if charges will be filed. Their names have not been released.
