NY [U.S.], May 23: The Greater Manchester Police have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the Manchester Arena bomb attack on Tuesday even as Prime Minister Theresa May condemned the "sickening cowardice" of the perpetrator.
A large crowd had gathered at the Manchester Arena for famous United States pop singer's concert on Monday. Suicide bomber Salman Abedi's father was detained in Tripoli, Libya and his younger brother arrested on suspicion of having links to the Islamic State group.
The man was held Wednesday after police carried out searches in the English town of Nuneaton, which is about 161 kilometers (100 miles) south of Manchester.
These searches are connected to Monday's attack on the Manchester Arena, but this is a fast-moving investigation and we are keeping an open mind at this stage.
The Greater Manchester Police aren't just yet releasing the names of the suspects that were taken into custody during several raids conducted on Wednesday, but are working under the suspicion that a larger conspiracy is behind the bombing.
United Kingdom police on Tuesday said they believed British-born Salman Abedi, aged 22, carried out Britain's deadliest bombing attack since 2005.
The Prime Minister said, "The police and emergency services have as always acted with courage and on behalf of the country I want to express our gratitude to them". The authorities have raised the threat level in the nation from "severe" to a "critical" level.
