Iran’s military chief vows to cooperate with Syria against ‘Zionist enemy’ Israel

Baqeri arrived in Syria on October 17 accompanied by several other senior Iranian military figures.

The Islamic Republic will not accept Israeli violations of Syrian airspace, the Iranian general said according to the Islamic Republic News Agency.

“We are in Damascus to be emphatic, for the sake of coordination and for the sake of cooperation in order to fight back against our shared enemies, whether they are Zionists or terrorists”, added Bagheri during his rare visit.

During the press conference which was held Wednesday in Damascus, General Ayoub protested against the entry of Turkish military to Syrian soil and said “Turkish army’s entry to Syria’s soil is against Astana agreement and counter to all global laws”.

Elsewhere, he said that the Zionist regime of Israel’s aggressions against Syria whenever it likes is “unacceptable”.

Baqueri’s statement comes after Israel destroyed a Syrian anti-aircraft battery in a retaliatory strike on Monday, in the wake of a Syrian attempt to fire a surface-to-air missile at Israeli jets.

In a joint press conference following the talks, Lt. Gen. Ayoub said “We held plenary talks which included a comprehensive assessment of all the current developments, and we discussed in details the relations binding our armies and the mutual desire to enhance these relations”.

Netanyahu told Shoigu that Israel would not tolerate a permanent Iranian military presence in Syria, The Jerusalem Post reported Tuesday.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Iran was strengthening its foothold in Syria and that Israel would “do whatever it takes” to protect its security.

Israel has largely stayed out of the fighting in Syria but has carried out dozens of airstrikes on alleged weapons convoys bound for Lebanese militant Hezbollah group.
