The Rangers are four games out of the second American League wild-card spot.
The Chicago White Sox have acquired minor-league infielder Edward Ti'Quan (ty-QUAN) Forbes from the Texas Rangers in exchange for right-handed pitcher Miguel González. He is 7-10 with a 4.31 ERA in 133 2/3 innings so far this season.
"Miguel is an experienced starter to help us down the stretch", general manager Jon Daniels said in a news release. Texas' starting rotation entered Thursday ranked 14th in baseball in earned run average (4.54), and in Gonzalez it adds a starter who's produced eight quality starts in his last nine outings.
Gonzalez, 33, allowed three runs in six innings in his start against the Twins on Thursday afternoon. In August, Gonzalez, who was also on the Orioles' radar according to the Baltimore Sun, is 2-1 with a 3.53 ERA in six starts. He is hitting.234/.281/.344 with 11 home runs in 130 games split between two Class A levels this season.
The Rangers designated right-handed pitcher Anthony Bass for assignment to free up a roster spot for Gonzalez. He originally was selected by the Rangers in the second round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of Columbia (Miss.) High School. He has pitched most of the season at Triple A Round Rock, but made two brief appearances with the Rangers early in the season.
