Several U.S. bombers and fighter jet escorts flew in worldwide waters off North Korea's coast on Saturday as a display of "resolve" against the nation's "reckless" behavior, the Pentagon announced.
Heavy U.S. bombers and fighter jets flew past North Korea Saturday in a warning to the rogue regime.
The mission was meant as a demonstration of USA resolve in dealing with an increasingly tense situation with North Korea, underscoring the seriousness with which the United States takes the reckless behavior of Pyongyang, the statement said.
The Pentagon said the flight was in response to the "grave threat" that North Korea posed to the Asia-Pacific region, and the global community.
The show of force demonstrates that the US government has a "range of military options to defeat any threat", Pentagon spokeswoman Dana White said in a statement.
"We are prepared to use the full range of military capabilities to defend the USA homeland and our allies", White said.
President Donald Trump has threatened to "totally destroy" North Korea if the United States was forced to defend itself or its allies against a North Korean attack. It said the operation showed the seriousness with which it took North Korea's "reckless behavior". And Kim's foreign minister has said country's response to Trump "could be the most powerful detonation of an H-bomb in the Pacific".
Earlier this week, Trump tweeted, "Kim Jong Un of North Korea, who is obviously a madman who doesn't mind starving or killing his people, will be tested like never before!"
