Leader of Islamic Revolution in Iran, Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei said Thursday that US President Donald Trump's speech at the United Nationa' General Assembly was out of anger and desperation not from the position of power.
Trump, whose deeply antagonistic stance toward Iran has given rise to tensions between the two countries, delivered a scathing verbal attack against Iran in his maiden speech to the UN General Assembly's meeting of world leaders on Tuesday.
He also called the deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), "one of the worst" deal the USA has ever signed. "The American elites and intellectuals should feel ashamed for having Trump as their president, and they have indeed voiced their embarrassment", his eminence added.
'The American (politicians) were seeking to create a new Middle East to provide the Zionist regime with security, ' he said, adding that they failed to do so.
"That foolish, extremely ugly and disgusting speech by the USA president, with its gangster and cowboy language fraught with sheer lies, stems from their fury, frustration and light-headedness", he said.
In his debut address to the U.N. on Tuesday, Trump called Iran a "corrupt dictatorship" and a "murderous regime", and said the landmark nuclear agreement Tehran reached with the USA and other world powers was "an embarrassment to the United States", strongly hinting he might pull out of the deal.
Ayatollah Khamenei said that Washington's anger is also rooted in its failure to advance its agenda in the West Asia region, where Iran has played an influential, dignified and successful role.
The remarks did not stem from power but from anger and frustration because the Americans are infuriated that their years-long plots in West Asia have been foiled following the Islamic Republic's effective presence in the region, the Leader stated. "In Syria, despite. the extensive USA support for takfiri terrorist groups, Daesh [the self-styled Islamic State terrorist group] is on the verge of collapse and groups such as the al-Nusra Front are isolated", he said.
