The "Veliky Novgorod" attack submarine of the Varshavyanka class (designated "Improved Kilo" by NATO) fired the missiles on Friday from the Mediterranean Sea, the ministry said in a statement.
Thursday, three Russian troops were wounded after militants encircled 29 Russian military officers deployed outside of Idlib for several hours.
"The missile strike targeted the recently detected terrorist strongholds, manpower, and armored vehicles, as well as the ammunition depots of the Jabhat al-Nusra terror group (outlawed in Russia) in the Idlib province", the source said. A group called Tahrir al-Sham, an alliance of jihadists, which includes the hardline core of what used to be Al-Nusra Front, led the attack.

After the attack in Idlib was repelled, the Syrian Army, supported by Russian warplanes, launched a counterattack and nearly completely reclaimed their positions in the de-escalation zone. The attack, initiated by the USA special services, was repelled. According to the Russian military, a total of 187 terrorist targets were hit by airstrikes and artillery fire and about 850 terrorists were destroyed.
