Frida, a Labrador attached to the Mexican Navy's Canine Unit, has been hard at work looking for survivors in the rubble of Mexico City after a 7.1 magnitude natural disaster struck earlier this week and claimed the lives of at least 273 people. Overall, over 250 people were killed in the quake. "She belongs to SEMAR and has helped save 52 lives in various natural disasters at national and worldwide levels".
Throughout her career, Frida has recovered 52 people, 12 of which were alive, in various natural disasters, including the quake that hit in Oaxaca, Mexico, on September 7.
The six-year-old has already saved the lives of 52 people from various accidents and emergencies in Central and North America, according to the Buzzfeed website.
Amid searches where rescuers have been helping in pulling out people from under the rubble with shovels, there is a tale of a dog that is capuring everyone's attention on social media.
Dressed in her military fatigue comprising goggles, a padded waistcoat and boots, Frida, a 7-year-old labrador with the Canine Unit of the Mexican Navy, has been winning hearts in Mexico for assisting in the rescue mission at the Enrique Rebsamen school.
Frida is a member of the Mexican Navy, SEMAR, and counts the president of Mexico as one of her many fans. About 270 people have been confirmed dead, and that number will likely rise as Frida and her crew continue their search. Along with her are Evil and Echo, a year and a half old dogs, who enter the collapsed buildings first.
Others are still buried under the rubble and their hopes of survival rest on rescue dogs like Frida. If they detect a person, Frida follows up to confirm.
