Since reaching the Top 10 after the US Open, the French Open champion has yet to drop a set, as she coasted past Veronica Cepede Royg 6-3, 6-1.
Ostapenko was a surprise grand slam victor at Roland Garros as she beat third seed Simona Halep but following that with more silverware has proved hard for the Latvian.
The 20-year-old French Open champion from Latvia beat Luksika KumKhum, who had earlier upset the number four seed Sorana Cirstea, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 in 110 minutes. "I enjoyed playing here, and to also see so many Latvian flags is incredible".
Iust enjoyed my time here; hopefully, I can be back next year and win some more titles here', said Ostapenko, who has choosen to play Seoul which is a lower category than Tokyo this week (International vs Premier). I just enjoyed my time here.
Ostapenko reeled off eight straight points to start the second set, bursting out to a 3-0 lead.
Having given up a break of serve midway through the first set, Ostapenko had to fight to save two set points in the 10th, but Haddad Maia was not to be denied in the tie-break. She was playing very well, very aggressively.
