NY [U.S.A], September 24: Pakistan's third largest political party, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), staged a protest in NY on the sidelines of the 72nd UN General Assembly session, calling on Islamabad to reopen its sealed offices in Islamabad and in other parts of the country.
Chief Farooq Sattar on Sunday said that his party workers were being pressurized and threatened to change their loyalties.
He further said that mayor and deputy mayor are not being replaced.
A few days ago, Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah, while downplaying reports of talks between the two key opposition parties for his removal, had said every party reserved the right to have its member chosen as the opposition leader.
Earlier today, Sattar and city mayor Waseem Akhtar met Dawoodi Bohra community's spiritual leader Dr Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin who is now in the city to observe Muharram here.
Kamal said that none of them was coerced to join his party.
Recently on September 2, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had communicated to the MQM-P leadership that its unit offices - sealed off or razed a year ago could not be reopened.
"Those who are happy by our members leaving, need to know that those joining us are in such great numbers that it is hard to count", Sattar said.
