There are 1,189 advances, 342 declines and 438 unchanged stocks on NSE reflecting strong positive undertone floating in the market. The Nifty hit a record high of 10,160, surpassing its August high of 10,137, while the BSE Sensex rose almost 180 points.
Key Indian equity indices - the BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50 - surged during the early-morning trade session on Monday on the back of positive Asian peers and healthy buying in automobile, capital goods and banking stocks.
The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.79 % at 16098, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 1.03% at 16859.
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Larsen & Toubro (2.37%), Bajaj Auto (2.25%), Tata Motors (2.07%), Hero Motocorp (1.25%), GAIL (India) (1.16%), and NTPC (1.11%).
The INDIA VIX is down 2.71% at 11.36. At 9.39 a.m, the Sensex was trading up 192.09 points or 0.60% at 32,464.70 with 24 components gaining.
Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 125.55 crore while foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought equities of Rs 418.86 crore on Friday, showed provisional data. Continued buying by DIIs and fresh fund inflows by foreign investors, which had been on selling spree, bolstered the trading sentiment, traders said. Japanese financial markets are closed for a public holiday. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at new highs in Friday's trade.
