Wits wunderkind Phakamani Mahlambi, who inspired the SA Under-23 team to qualify for the Rio Olympics, has joined Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
"Phakamani Mahlambi penned a four-year contract with club", read a statement on the club's official website on Thursday.
The Siya crew reported on Wednesday that the young worldwide was jetting into Cairo to complete his move to the African giants, and the news has since been confirmed by Al Ahly on their personal platforms.
Defending champions Ahly are set to start their league campaign on Sunday when they face Talae El-Geish in the Egyptian league opener.
The right winger had a trial at Portuguese club Vitoria Guimaraes recently, but no deal was concluded.
The move follows Pharaohs' striker Amr Gamal travelling the other way and joining Wits on a one-year loan from Al Ahly.
Mahlambi jetted out to Cairo late on Wednesday evening in order to complete his medical prior to finalising personal terms, after Wits accepted a $1.3-million (R16.7-million) bid from the Red Devils.
