According to local outlet Correio de Manha, the 11-year-old is joining the youth academy at a top soccer club S.L. Benefica - and Madge is 100% supportive of the promising opportunity.

Adopted in 2006 by the American superstar Madonna, David came through trials at the Portuguese club in the spring and is now living at the club's youth academy at Seixal in Lisbon's surburbs.

The Portuguese weekly magazine Visão reported: "Madonna is no longer a tourist, she now lives in Lisbon". David, meanwhile, has a French school (tuition: £30,000) in store for him.

The club accepted David after his first test in the spring following a successful trial.

Madonna has been staying in a Lisbon hotel after buying a house in the village of Sintra, 20miles northwest of the Portuguese capital. The $9 million building could take six months to renovate.

In the last month, Madonna has been spotted in Saint-Tropez, where she partied with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, and in Puglia, where she entered her 59th birthday party on a horse.
