"China and India are working on seeking a fair and reasonable settlement which can be accepted by both sides through negotiations".
"You must be clear that the boundary of India and China border area has not been totally delimited.we have disputes on the eastern section of the boundary", she said.
Though the joint statement did not specifically refer to Arunachal Pradesh, large parts of which are claimed by Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying spoke about the disputed border in the "eastern section" when she was asked about the Act East Forum at a news briefing.
According to the statement, Modi and Abe appreciated the cooperation between Japan and northeastern India, ranging from key infrastructure such as road connectivity, electricity, water supply and sewage, to social and environmental sustainability such as afforestation and community empowerment, as well as people-to-people exchanges, including inviting youth from the the Northeast to Japan.
Hua Chunying also pointed out that the India-Japan joint statement did not mention China anywhere in the document.
We know that resolving disputes by directly concerned parties to uphold freedom of navigation and over-flight is China's position.
The spokesperson mentions that her government has read the joint statement between India and Japan, and is bit surprised to see that there isn't any reference to China where it is needed, including the development/investment near border areas like Arunachal.
The 70-day-long Doklam standoff between began with New Delhi's opposition to Beijing's road construction in tri-junction point between India-Bhutan-China. I have not found the word "China" in the statement. They had said they were for freedom of navigation, in accordance with "universally recognised principles of worldwide law, notably the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea" in the region, which also includes the disputed South China Sea.
Responding to the other questions, spokesperson Hua said China had closely tracked the Japanese Prime Minister's high-profile visit to India. "We are committed to the policy of Make in India", Abe said.
Hua hoped that close ties between India and Japan were conducive to regional peace and stability. "We hope the normal development of the relationship can be conducive to regional, peace and development and play a constructive role in this process", she said. I want to add that both Japan and India are important countries in Asia.
