Rookie Erik Jones won his first career pole, taking the top spot for tonight's Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Jones turned a lap at 128.082 miles per hour around the high-banked bullring to take the top starting spot for tonight's race.
The 21-year-old Byron native turned in a lap at 128,082 miles per hour at Bristol Motor Speedway on Friday to push aside Kyle Larson - last week's victor at Michigan International Speedway - and his 128.057 miles per hour ahead of the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race.
Jones finished a career-best third last week at MI.
Kasey Kahne qualified third and was followed by Hendrick Motorsports teammate Chase Elliott. There are three open spots left and Jones is now 16. Qualifying took place ahead of last night's XFINITY Series Food City 300, which was won by Kyle Busch. Busch, also won the Truck Series race Wednesday night. He was followed by a slew of Chevy drivers: Ty Dillon, Justin Allgaier, Brennan Poole, Daniel Hemric and Austin Dillon. Clint Bowyer, Kevin Harvick, Matt Kenseth and Joey Logano rounded out the top 5.
