Toronto police are expected to reveal the new design for their cruisers Monday, a paint scheme created by Ryerson University's RTA School of Media.
Toronto police have unveiled the new look of their police cruisers on Monday morning after undertaking public consultations on the design this past spring. As a result, there will be no additional cost to Toronto Police Service to implement the new design, police said.
Police Chief Mark Saunders halted the rollout of the vehicles in November and the force launched an online survey in April asking for the public's help in redesigning the cars.
Most Toronto police cars are white with blue and red stripes. Before that, cruisers were in highly-visible chrome yellow.
"I hope it's visible enough that the public will not have any concerns identifying a marked police vehicle if one of them is driving down the streets", said Saunders at a press conference on Monday.
Saunders said that the entire redesign project will be done within their existing budget for the fleet's management.
"The first time we went out and made that design, it was very loud and clear that people didn't feel comfortable because they didn't have a say", Saunders said.
Police say more than 18,000 responses were received to a 14-question survey released to the public and the membership regarding the new design.
