Rumors about Gloria Carter's sexual identity began in 2013, when she allegedly began dating Dania Diaz, who runs Jay-Z's Shawn Carter Foundation.
She's featured on "Smile", duetting with her son about finding hope in dark times.
"Mama had four kids, but she's a lesbian", Jay-Z raps.
Carter wraps up the track with a spoken word outro, saying, "Living in the shadow". But life is short, and it's time to be free.
He also admitted that he "cried tears of joy" when his mom fell in love, and that he doesn't care whether her beau is a guy or gal - he just wants his mom to be happy.
You guys, I've literally been screaming for the past half hour, and I'm about to scream to you guys again: We may actually, hopefully, for real this time maybe, reportedly know the names of Beyoncé and JAY-Z's twins!
Living in the shadow.
"Living in the shadow / Can you imagine what kind of life it is to live?" she asks on the close-to-five-minute track.
GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) tweeted in support of Ms. Carter following the release of the album, and the organization's president and CEO, Sarah Kate Ellis issued a response to Ms. Carter's announcement, as Billboard reports. It's the first time either of them has publicly discussed her sexuality.
Gloria divorced Jay's father, Adnis Reeves, when the musician was just a boy, and in his lyrics, the 47-year-old star admits it took her years to finally live her life out in the open - and he couldn't be happier for her.
