Chris Daugherty returned home this week from deployment with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Carl Vinson.
Instead of telling him right away, Natasha made a decision to keep her pregnancy a secret until Chris returned home and she was able to give him the good news in person.
A San Diego sailor who recently returned home was surprised by a big announcement by his wife who kept a big secret while he was deployed.
Natasha posted the video to Facebook writing, "Here it is!" He hugged his kids one by one and then saw his wife, standing with a sign that read "Welcome home, baby daddy". Six seconds later, he hesitantly pokes Natasha's belly, saying, 'Is that real?
Natasha noted that neither she nor her husband were anticipating that they would have another child, since Chris "was only home for a short time" between deployments.
Chris is visibly shocked, pausing for a moment before laughing and touching her stomach and asking "Is this real?"
KTLA sat down with Chris and Natasha Daugherty on Tuesday.
"She was very good at hiding it, whether it was emojis or hiding behind somebody", Chris told the TV station.
"She said, 'Surprise!' and dropped the sign, and I was confused", Chris said.
At times, it was hard to keep up the charade and hide the life-changing news, especially when Chris' deployment was extended for a month as the USS Carl Vinson was ordered to make a show of force near the coast of North Korea.
"I was wondering, 'Should I tell him?" He's so confused and in disbelief lol, asked if it was real and poked the belly.so amusing! "Would I feel guilty if something happens and he doesn't know?'" Natasha recalled.
But for Natasha, it was a tough secret to keep for six months.
The Daughertys' newest addition is due in August and - as revealed during Chris' homecoming party - the baby is a girl.
Chris is expected to be home until January, so he'll be able to be there for her birth.
