The former Republican National Committee chairman faced a hard task from the outset as he attempted to wrangle a hodgepodge of rival staff factions divided by ideology and allegiance, his influence supplanted by several other top advisers - including the President's own kin - who reported directly to Trump and not to the chief of staff.

Within days of his appointment, Scaramucci, who was added to the roster of top aides who circumvent the chief of staff and report directly to the President, took to the airwaves and suggested Priebus was responsible for leaks coming out of the White House.

Priebus, though, is "always going to be a Trump fan", he told CNN Friday night. "He has been a true star of my Administration", Efe news quoted President as saying in a series of tweets on Friday.

He also saluted Priebus, the chief of staff he had just pushed out.

Trump also thanked Priebus for his service. "We accomplished a lot together and I am proud of him!" "Secretary Kelly is a star, and he'll do a good job".

An Obama administration appointee, Yates became a household name in January when she was sacked, ostensibly, for refusing to implement the first iteration of Trump's ban on travelers from a number of Muslim-majority countries.

Lost in a wave of high-drama ousts, two other figures have bowed out of the Trump administration: former deputy chief of staff Katie Walsh and former director of the Office of Government Ethics Walter Shaub. Priebus has had a diminished profile in the White House for weeks, and the president hasn't exactly expressed support for him. Another early departure from the Trump White House was National Security Adviser Michael Flynn. In a highly unusual arrangement, Trump said at the outset that Priebus and chief strategist Steve Bannon would serve as "equal partners" in implementing his agenda. "It's bothering our folks and this is not NY", said Hayes, in a reference to the home state of Scaramucci and Trump, as well as Trump's daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner - both of whom are White House advisers. Priebus took the return flight to Washington, his fate sealed in the tweets that were sent by the president just as he stepped off the plane. Priebus' vehicle then pulled aside, out of the POTUS motorcade. The president eventually emerged, umbrella in hand, and delivered a brief statement on the runway as driving rain poured.

Trump's comments were met with laughter from his law enforcement audience, but quickly came under broad criticism for their apparent endorsement of police brutality."Law enforcement officers are trained to treat all individuals, whether they are a complainant, suspect, or defendant, with dignity and respect", said a statement from the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

"I will continue to serve as a strong supporter of the president's agenda and policies", he said.

Only last week did Press Secretary Spicer resign.

He was hired with the goal of bringing more discipline to the White House, a senior White House official said.

Since entering the White House six months ago, Trump has parted company with his national security advisor, deputy national security advisor, Federal Bureau of Investigation director, press secretary, communications director, acting attorney general, deputy chief of staff and now chief of staff, a turnover of top officials that is unparalleled in United States political history.

After it was announced that Priebus would be leaving, a friend of the Homeland Security secretary told The Washington Post that Kelly, a tough talking Bostoner who spent 45 years in the Marines, is ideally suited to confront the challenges he'll face. Yet, just days after taking office, he had to lead the agency as it dealt with the chaos and confusion that ensued at airports in the USA and around the world. He defended the orders to reporters and lawmakers and insisted that he indeed had been part of the decision-making process.

No major legislation has yet landed on Trump's desk for his signature.
