Twelve people, including a city mayor, were killed on Sunday in a shootout with police officers during a series of pre-dawn anti-drug raids in the southern Philippines, police and local officials said.
Ozamiz City Vice Mayor Nova Parojinog Eschavez, Parojinog's daughter, was arrested and was now in the custody of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) as authorities began processing the crime scene.
The raids were on residences of the Parojinog political clan.
The raid in San Roque Lawis also resulted in deaths of Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team and Civil Volunteer Organization members identified as Miguel del Victoria, Nestor Cabalan and a certain Vasquez.

Vice Mayor Parojinog, who survived the encounter, was arrested and is being held at the Misamis Occidental Police office. Timoteo Pacleb later told DZMM that several rifles, an unspecified amount of suspected shabu and bundles of cash were confiscated from the mayor's house.
The board member is now away from his house.
Five men were arrested during the search as the police also seized firearms and drug paraphernalia.
