With racial issues in the media becoming so taxing on the populace, David Ayer, director of "Suicide Squad", made a decision to subvert the common mentality we have on the subject and expand on it an odd way.

Will audiences tune in for a original - if weird - take on race relations as filtered through a combination of End of Watch and The Hobbit?

Ayer, known for his work on Suicide Squad, said of the film, "This ain't no bulls- PG-13 studio movie".

The film stars Will Smith as a cop who's partnered with a shotgun-toting orc played by Joel Edgerton. Joel Edgerton co-stars under the make-up as "Nick Jakoby", and the full cast includes Noomi Rapace, Kenneth Choi, Brad William Henke, Lucy Fry, Edgar Ramírez, Ike Barinholtz, Brandon Larracuente, and Dawn Olivieri.

"It is such a weird world, this insane mashup of the grit and the hard R-rated grime, smashed with 'Lord of the Rings, '" was Smith's description.

But while Smith also extolled the virtues of Netflix - "I'm extremely excited to see where this thing goes" - Ayer was practically sending the company flowers and candy.

Luckily, a threat involving an actual magic wand and warring factions of fantasy people become a much bigger deal than Smith's pro-human biases, and he puts aside his issues to (probably) try and save Los Angeles. "You never get to be on that side of racism when you're black". So this actually looks surprisingly damn good, I'm serious.

Picked up as part of huge $90 million deal, Bright demonstrates Netflix's commitment to bringing blockbuster-style content to its streaming service on a global scale.

Based on the manga series of the same name "Death Note" follows a high school student (Nat Wolff) who discovers a supernatural notebook that grants him the power to decide who dies and how.
