The sickening footage was filmed just after noon on July 9 in Cocoa, Florida, when Jamel Dunn was seen pleading for help while the teens stood by and mocked him, according to Florida Today.
Only after his body was discovered floating by the edge of the water in Bracco Pond Park in Cocoa, Florida on July 12 did his family discover someone recorded his drowning and didn't help. "He was just screaming. for someone to help him".
Dunn waded into the water from the west side as the teens watched from the south side of the pond.
Soon after Dunn's body was recovered, a video surfaced on social media that depicted his final moments, authorities said.
"Get out the water, you gonna die" one teen yelled in the video.
The statement called the incident a "tragedy" and said the teens' disinterest in helping Dunn had "no moral justification".
"Ain't nobody fixing to help you, you dumb (expletive)", another one shouted. The group then laughs.
During one interview, an officer says one of the teens just stared straight ahead and offered "only a smirk" while the boy's mother cried. The teens, who police say had no remorse, were later identified through questioning by detectives. As a result, it is unlikely that any of the teens will be charged with a crime.
The two-and-a-half-minute video was released by the state attorney's office on Thursday.
It is unclear why Dunn entered the deep water of the pond but he did it after an argument with his fiancée, Martinez said.
After consulting with prosecutors in the Brevard County State Attorney's Office, investigators have preliminarily concluded the teens broke no laws; there is nothing in the statute books to charge them with, Martinez said.
The fiancée left the scene and Dunn stayed, according to police.
The family and friends of Dunn have set up a GoFund Me page to ask for help in funding his funeral.
