They continued: "Putting aside Mr Trump's never-ending obsession with women's blood, Mika and her face were perfectly intact, as pictures from that night reveal". She was bleeding badly from a face-lift.
Scarborough said on Friday that he and Brzezinski had been followed by an Enquirer reporter and that the suggestion was made by the White House that if the couple wanted the story about their relationship to "go away" Scarborough should call the president to ask him to "have it spiked".
Scarborough also had a pointed question for the president; "Why do you keep lying about things that are so easily disproven?" They said Brzezinski did not have a facelift but "She did have a little skin under her chin tweaked". She said he had the right to fight back when attacked by critics. "They were calling close friends".
"The guy who is in the White House now is not the guy we know", Scarborough said.
The couple recently acknowledged their relationship and became engaged.
But in a Friday morning tweet, Mr Trump denied the couple's claims, saying Mr Scarborough "called me to stop a National Enquirer article". The store owner is quoted as having said that he has seen Scarborough there buying beer, but Scarborough said, "I've never bought a beer in my life, from a convenience store, from a bar, anywhere".
Scarborough later tweeted that he had phone and text messages from presidential aides to prove his point, and that he hasn't spoken to Trump in many months. "He started talking about blood coming out of her ears, out of her eyes".
The National Enquirer responded to the feud between the president and the cable news hosts Friday morning.
"At no time did we threaten either Joe or Mika or their children in connection with our reporting on the story", Howard said.
The Enquirer's Twitter account retweeted their article on Friday, with a headline about "Morning Joe Couple's Sleazy Cheating Scandal!" Their relationship soured as the commentary turned negative, and Trump targeted them on social media.
Senator Lindsey Graham said Mr Trump's remarks on Thursday were "beneath the office" of president. House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi called Trump's tweets, "blatantly sexist".
"I don't think that the president has ever been someone that gets attacked and doesn't push back", spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders told Fox News.
"I heard poorly rated @Morning_Joe speaks badly of me (don't watch anymore)", Trump tweeted to his almost 33 million followers Thursday morning.
Brzezinski has since issued her own response to the tweets and it's definitely worth more than a thousand words.
Ms Brzezinski is the daughter of the late Zbigniew Brzezinski, who was President Jimmy Carter's national security adviser, while Mr Scarborough is a former Republican congressman.
