They placed money on a table, then, asked the child to come up with something that she needed the money for.

Oscar victor Angelina Jolie says Vanity Fair's depiction of controversial child auditions for her latest film set in Cambodia, First They Killed My Father, is "false". According to the story, Jolie and the team were trying to find child actors in Cambodia who had "experienced hardship", and as part of their insane audition scheme, they purposefully left some money on a table and waited until the kids took it. Vanity Fair notes that she had to give the money back, though, which is making this weird audition process seem even more controversial.

Angelina Jolie is now busy with the promotional activities of her new film First They Killed My Father.

Through tears, Jolie added: 'When she was asked later what the money was for, she said her grandfather had died, and they didn't have enough money for a nice funeral'.

The article states that Jolie "looked at orphanages, circuses, and slum schools, seeking children, who had experienced hardship" to play Ung, but that the casting directors devised a cruel game to pick the child actor. "And above all to make sure that no one was in any way hurt by participating in the recreation of such a painful part of their countryas history".

Angelina Jolie is a cultural-tourist and Pro-imperialist monster, but I didn't think she would stoop to torturing children. They started criticising the filmmaker over the Cambodian orphan and playing "cruel" casting game.

Another point criticised in the VF article WHICH wasn't addressed in Jolie's statement involved her using the Cambodian army, who have been criticised by NGOs for their human rights abuses. Cambodia is a place that has proven to be deeply cathartic for Jolie, as it is where she adopted her first child, son Maddox, and restarted her life. "I would be outraged myself if this had happened". "It is a film about Loung Ung's traumatic experiences under the Khmer Rouge".

She went on to clarify that the "pretend exercise" was "from an actual scene in the film" and was not "a real scenario" as it had been written to appear.

First They Killed My Father will premiere on Netflix later this year.

Angelina, who admitted the young actress chosen for the film became "overwhelmed with emotion" when the money was taken away from her during her audition process, is now setting the record straight in a statement released to the Huffington Post.

In the recently published interview, Jolie talked about the casting process for "First They Killed My Father" inviting harsh criticism over her perspective.
