"I've been playing very well on grass".
Apparently it was the Swiss Miss who came up with the idea, saying she made the approach because he "is too nice a guy" to do it.
"I didn't play for seven months, so this is incredible, a fairy tale, " said Rybarikova who won the first of her four WTA titles on grass at Birmingham in 2009.
Rybarikova is the lowest ranked player to make it to the Wimbledon semifinals since Zheng Jie did it in 2008 when she was ranked No. 133.
Hingis has won three mixed titles here at Wimbledon, Murray one back in 2007 and two men's doubles titles since at other Slams, meaning they were installed as top seeds. Also playing on grass, it's my favorite surface.
"Obviously I was dreaming about it since I was a little kid, to be semifinal in the Wimbledon".
But Rybarikova broke ranks with fellow quarter-finalists Venus Williams and Jelena Ostapenko, as well as former three-time victor Chris Evert, by insisting she was happy to get shunted off to the outside courts if it meant the likes of Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Rafal Nadal and Novak Djokovic got the showpiece arenas. The pair have split four previous encounters with Rybarikova taking their only meeting on grass in 2015. Vandeweghe had a decent build-up to Wimbledon by reaching the quarter-finals of the Birmingham Classic where she was retired against Garbine Muguruza. That equaled her best result at any Grand Slam tournament. Two years ago I did a third round.
The Women's tournament has seen some brilliant performers as well with a few of the top ranked players producing commendable performances in the tournament.
She added: "Sometimes girls they win like 6-1, 6-2, and sometimes it's boring".
But luck was against the American, who lost a heated debate with the chair umpire - calling a contentious interpretation of the rules "baloney" - before succumbing on the first of three more match points when she dragged a backhand wide. "She's playing really well".
That was the legacy of wrist and knee surgeries which sidelined her from the second half of 2016. "I was pretty nervous about it".
