President Donald Trump on Thursday called the alleged intelligence leaks following the Manchester Arena bombing "deeply troubling" and ordered the Justice Department to find out who was behind them.
Trump on Thursday pledged to "get to the bottom" of leaks of sensitive information, calling the leaks "deeply troubling". "The leaks of sensitive information pose a grave threat to our national security."-More..." Trump said in a statement that he has directed the Department of Justice to open an investigation - and that "if appropriate", the person responsible will be "prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law".
"Other extremists feeling hunted may have taken desperate action to bring ahead another attack", she says.
Ms Rudd said the investigation was "ongoing" when asked if another attack was planned.
Numerous details in the immediate aftermath of the attack - including the identity of the suspect and the nature of the attack - were first reported by American media outlets who quoted sources within the U.S. intelligence community.
Hours later, the New York Times published a series of detailed forensic photographs from the crime scene that showed, among other things, fragments of a blue backpack that may have contained the assailant's bomb.
Asked whether the leaks from USA officials had compromised the ongoing investigation, Rudd said she "wouldn't go that far".
The leak, which followed a similar disclosure of the bomber's identity and probe details, has rocked the intelligence-sharing relationship between close allies London and Washington.
The decision to end the suspension was taken after assurances were received by counter-terrorism officers in the UK. Mohammed Fadl, a community leader, said the Abedi family is well known, but Salman did not attend many gatherings. A woman was arrested late Wednesday but was later released without charge.
"It seems likely, possible, that he wasn't doing this on his own so the intelligence services and the police are pursuing their leads in order to make sure they get all the information. that they need to keep us safe", Rudd told BBC radio. "This behavior is arrogant and is undermining the investigation into the horrific attack on the city of Manchester".
Trump ignored shouted questions about whether Britain could trust the US with its intelligence as he was greeting French President Emmanuel Macron outside the US Chief of Mission's residence ahead of talks.
The attack was the deadliest in Britain since 2005 when four Islamist suicide bombers attacked London's transport system, killing 52 people. Campaigning will resume today.
Whitehall sources say 22-year-old Abedi was among a "large pool of people whose risk was kept under review" by security services. Twelve of the injured are aged under 16.
"It's terrible. Very wicked, to target that sort of thing", the 91-year-old monarch told 14-year-old Evie Mills and her parents.
