Bomb kills six policemen in Quetta

His body has been shifted to Civil Hospital, Quetta.

A auto bomb attack struck a Pakistani police truck in the southwestern city of Quetta on Wednesday, killing at least five policemen and two civilians.

According to media reports, the bomb exploded at Sibbi Phattak near police vehicle.

However, the nature of the blast is yet to be ascertained.

Rescue teams, police and security forces rushed to the site after the blast was reported.

Sarfraz Bugti, the home minister of Baluchistan province, of which Quetta is capital, told Reuters: “It was a suicide blast”.

Superintendent of Police (Security), Javed Iqbal Garshin said a suicide bomber hit his explosive-laden auto-rickshaw with a police truck.Police truck caught fire and the arms carried by the police personnel started firing automatically.

“Twenty-two others are injured”, he said.

“We will continue the war against these terrorists and we will defeat them”.

He added, “Terrorists plan their activities from Afghanistan while India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) along with Afghanistan’s National Directorate of Security (NDS) facilitate the terrorists carrying out their attacks in Pakistan“.

Security forces reached and cordoned off the area.

Baluchistan province has always been the scene of an insurgency by separatists fighting against the state to demand more of a share of the gas- and mineral-rich region’s resources.

Fifteen people, including eight soldiers, were killed when a suicide bomber targeted a military truck near the Pishin bus stop in Quetta on August 13.
