New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge hit his 49th homer on Monday, tying McGwire's Major League Baseball rookie record set in 1987.

McGwire has the numbers to be a Hall of Famer with 583 home runs of his own, including a then-league record 70 in 1998, but his links to steroids have kept him out of Cooperstown.

The Yankees slugger hit a two-run homer off Kansas City's Jakob Junis on Monday, a drive to right-center in the third inning that gave NY a 3-0 lead. Given the hot streak he's on, it seems like a good bet.

Judge has 12 home runs and 25 RBI in 22 games during the month of September.

Judge is also tied for the ninth most home runs in a season for a Yankee, matching Lou Gehrig's 1934 and 1936 seasons and Babe Ruth's 1930 campaign. His thunderous start to the season produced 30 homers before the All-Star break.

Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge went deep again twice on Monday afternoon against the Royals (GameTracker) to make history. With momentum on his side, all signs point toward Judge hitting 50 and claiming the rookie record all for himself.
