The FBI said it would not release Hillary Clinton's FBI files, citing a lack of public interest.
"It is incumbent upon the requester to provide documentation regarding the public's interest in the operations and activities of the government before records can be processed pursuant to the FOIA (Freedom of Information Act)" request, Hardy wrote.
If you seek disclosure of any existing records on this basis, you must demonstrate that the public interest in disclosure outweighs personal privacy interests.
"I'm just stunned. This is exactly what I would have expected had Mrs. Clinton won the election, but she didn't".
Clevenger is still trying to obtain the documents from the FBI related to Clinton's investigation and wants to prove her guilt. Members of the Committee allege Comey made the decision months before FBI agents were finished with the criminal investigation of her mishandling classified information during her time as Secretary of State.
In a news release Thursday, the senators said Comey began drafting a statement in April or May 2016, which was before the Federal Bureau of Investigation interviewed 17 key witnesses, including Clinton herself and other top aides. Earlier this week, in what Tom Fitton of Judicial Watch says is a "Comey-esque cover-up", David Hardy of the FBI's Records Management team arbitrarily decided no one was interested in that old scandal anymore.
In another letter on Monday, Hardy shut down Clevenger's request, again claiming there is not enough public interest in Clinton to justify releasing her records WND's Alicia Powe reports.
In the Wednesday letter to FBI Director Chris Wray, the two senators said they have requested all records relating to the drafting of the statement. "The FBI should be held to a higher standard than that, especially in a matter of such great public interest and controversy".
The law enforcement agency wrote a letter, giving a response to Clevenger's request, and said that "In this regard, you must show that the public interest sought is a significant one".
Clevenger's reaction of stunned disbelief quickly went viral and now there is a White House petition up demanding that the government release the documents.
During the 2016 election, the FBI was investigating Clinton for her use of a private email server throughout her tenure as secretary of state under former President Barack Obama.
