An assistant professor of Delhi University (DU) has been accused of using obscene terms and demeaning Hindu goddess Durga in his Facebook post.

The NDTF filed a complaint at the Lodhi Colony police station.

RSS-affiliated ABVP condemned the post and demanded immediate suspension of the professor. Speaking to TOI, one of the complainants, VS Negi, general secretary of NDTF, said that "this is a disgusting attempt at cheap publicity especially at a time when everyone is revelling in the festivities of Navratri".

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Chinmoy Biswal said, "The complaint was examined and Mr Mandal was booked under section 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, etc.) and 295A (deliberate and malicious acts meant to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting religious beliefs)". A senior officer said police were probing the matter.

The post has been taken down, but Mandal was booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, The Hindu quoted Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Chinmoy Biswal as saying. Despite several attempts to contact him, Mandal was not available for a comment.

"If allowed to continue as a teacher he will only spread hatred among students".
