June 20, 2017 - Tropical Storm Cindy forms in the Gulf of Mexico, about 265 miles south of Morgan City, Louisiana.
These warm ocean waters help to feed and grow tropical storms and hurricanes. Preparations to protect life and property should be rushed to completion. The storm is expected to strengthen during the next 48 hours.
Barbuda, home to about 1,600 people, was "so badly damaged that there is no communication" from the island, said Keithley Meade, director of a meteorological office in Antigua and Barbuda. It's unclear if the United States will see any impact from the storm.
Hurricane Jose continues to strengthen, moving west-northwest at around 17 miles per hour. A turn toward the northwest with a decrease in forward speed is forecast tonight through the weekend. Jose is to move farther from these islands into the northern Atlantic. Irma is a category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Some fluctuation in intensity, up or down, could occur during the next day or so. Its maximum sustained winds of 185 miles per hour were well above the 157 miles per hour threshold of a Category 5 storm. The estimated minimum central pressure is 925mb (27.32 inches).

By Saturday afternoon, the hurricane is expected to be downgraded to a tropical storm.
