Tower Hotel, used annually as the base for the London Marathon, said in a statement: "We have worked collaboratively with the EHO (Environmental Health Officer) and the IAAF to investigate the origins of the illness and can confirm that the hotel was not the source".
And now Falcon Sedimo, chief executive of the Botswana National Sports Commission, has slammed the IAAF for not being open about their decision. It would appear that it's a generalised assumption given the fact that other athletes that stayed in the hotel had a viral attack, it could be possible that one of the symptoms - and only one - could be connected to norovirus.
"There has been no official communication, no formal communication from the IAAF at all".
A copy of this medical record was given to a member of the BOT team medical staff following the examination.
The IAAF then withdrew him from the 400m finals, in both instances because of a "medical condition".
The IAAF said in a statement: "The IAAF is very sorry that the hard work and talent of Isaac Makwala won't be on display tonight but we have to think of the welfare of all athletes".
Van Niekerk became only the second South African to successfully defend a world title after Hestrie Cloete, who led the way with her two golds in the high jump in 2001 and 2003.

Athletics Ireland are taking all possible measures to protect their athletes in light of the gastroenteritis outbreak in the IAAF Team hotel at the World Championships in London. Despite that announcement, Makwala attempted to enter the London Stadium in a dramatic turn of events but he was refused entry by the authorities.
