No Filipino casualties were reported in Sunday's terrorist attack in Burkina Faso that left 17 people dead.

Meanwhile, colleagues of Diffalah called him a "dedicated volunteer" who was respected by his peers and by the partner organization with whom he was working.

McCarthy described Diffalah as "very sociable, very lively" and someone who loved people and entertaining.

He had lived in Canada for several years, studying food science and quality control at the University of Guelph, according to both McCarthy and his Facebook profile.

"We want our (fellow countrymen) wherever they are overseas to always remain vigilant and to always be prepared because these senseless acts of violence can happen anywhere and when we least expect them", Cayetano said in a statement.

Chen also attended a Master of Education program at Queen's University, through which, according to a profile on the school's website, she first traveled to Burkina Faso.

On its Twitter account, the college announced a PhD scholarship in Chen's name.

Burkina Faso, a landlocked nation in West Africa, is one of the poorest countries in the world. Most attacks have been along its remote northern border region with Mali, which has seen attacks by Islamist militants for more than a decade.

In death, Tammy Chen and Bilel Diffalah, are forever linked.

A woman said she was in the restaurant celebrating her brother's birthday when the shooting started.

"We ask our volunteers not to go to places where there are a lot of people, masses of people or where there's a lot of foreigners".

The Quebec government has "strongly condemned" the attack, on Tuesday, by issuing a press release.

Trudeau said that Canada condemns the attack and that people shouldn't have to live in fear over their safety.

"We will continue to work closely with the worldwide community to fight terrorism and bring those responsible to justice".

"He expressed his wish to make a difference. and that's why he wanted to go to Burkina Faso", she told CBC News.
