St-Pierre hasn't fought since 2013, when he announced he was taking a break from fighting, following a decision win over Johny Hendricks.

After months and months of speculation in regards to whether or not the fight was actually going to happen, it has now been made official that middleweight champion Michael Bisping will take on returning former longtime welterweight king Georges St. Pierre at UFC 217 on November 4, 2017 from Madison Square Garden in New York City.

George St-Pierre has revealed he is bound by his UFC contract to defend the middleweight title should he dethrone Michael Bisping in NY.

"I have a contract with UFC".

"I have to defend my title", St-Pierre told Ariel Helwani on "The MMA Hour" show yesterday. "I have to defend my title". St-Pierre didn't say that was his intention, and there was a lot of speculation as to whether he would drop to 155, as a means to fight Conor McGregor.

"I wanted my risk to be worth it", St-Pierre said of fighting Bisping. "I have to defend my title if I win".

I think I could get down to 185.

St-Pierre long resisted fans urges to move up to middleweight during his long reign as the 170lb champion, but whereas he used to walk around at 186lbs prior to his cut in those days, these days he's bulked up to 198lbs, which makes the move more viable physically for him. He has held the lightweight title for the better part of a year, while focusing on the birth of his first child and chasing down his dream fight with Floyd Mayweather.

"It is unfortunate for certain people", St-Pierre added. But it's something he's resigned do dealing with in order to get the fight with Bisping.

"[Staying at middleweight] wasn't my initial plan, but I understand the UFC's point of view", St-Pierre said. If the cream of the UFC middleweight crop are peeved with St-Pierre vaulting ahead of them into contention though, just imagine the uproar if Tony Bellew landed a title shot. "They don't want to delay the defense of their titles, because they don't want to make people wait".
