The initial wave of optimism emerging from South Florida on Thursday afternoon about Ryan Tannehill's injury may have been premature. After missing the latter part of the 2016-17 campaign due to an injured knee, the veteran signal caller may now be forced to go under the knife in order to correct his latest lower-body issue.

The Dolphins are still waiting for further medical evaluation on Ryan Tannehill's knee, but ESPN reports they are preparing for a wide range of outcomes-including the possibility that he is out for the season. It is certain that the Dolphins will take a cautious approach with Tannehill, there is no reason to rush him back.

The NFL Network's Ian Rapoport added on Friday morning that the Dolphins could end up fully repairing the knee with rest and rehab. Now, with a second injury in less than one year, Tannehill may have to get surgery.

But to date, the Dolphins did not seek out a quarterback to complete with Moore for the starting spot.

While the Dolphins have Matt Moore as a backup, and he performed capably when Tannehill went down past year, two other big names have been floated for spots with Miami: Colin Kaepernick and Jay Cutler.

"He's done, I think", a source told ESPN.

Enter Colin Kaepernick. Bleacher Report claimed that the Dolphins have been internally discussing signing the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback, who remains the best available free agent quarterback. Darlington also reported that former National Football League quarterback Jay Cutler could consider delaying his new broadcasting job with FOX Sports to play for the Dolphins, but would only do it for starter's money. While sources say the Dolphins job is the only one Cutler would consider at this point, he'll only put his broadcast career on hold if the Dolphins make him the starter and pay him starter money.
